Newport Cottage

Nestled in the garden behind a historic craftsman home, this 400 square foot converted garage was destined for a new life as a cozy cottage. The sterile-feeling grey and white walls throughout were replaced with a warmer palette of mauve, butter yellow, peach, sage, and umber brown. The original checkerboard linoleum flooring once read as industrial now feels historic. The existing kitchenette was injected with even more character by adding a retro mini fridge, pink laminate, beadboard with a peg rail, and matching butter yellow wood knobs. The new island was a thrift store find—an old vanity that was made over with a new butcher block top, wheels, and towel rack. The furniture and decor throughout the space is mostly an eclectic mix of vintage and found objects—many being repaired and painted a new bold shade of color.
